Tabata Training: 4 minutes to a better you
You know there are a ton of ways to lose weight and hit your fitness goals. One of those ways is with Tabata training. Tabata is a high-intensity interval training (HIIT), featuring exercises that last four minutes. I know right now, you are telling yourself “four minutes is nothing”, but then you haven’t tried Tabata. I promise, it’ll be some of the toughest four minutes you’ve ever endured.
Tabata goes like this:
- Workout for 20 seconds
- Rest for 10 seconds
- Complete 8 rounds for a total of 4 min
Simple, right? Not so fast. For the first 20 seconds, you push yourself as hard as you can and then rest for 10 seconds. This is the first set. You will then complete this for a total of 8 rounds.
The good news is, any basic exercise can work and you do not need to have heavy weights or expensive exercise equipment. You can do pushups, squats, lunges, jumping jacks, or my favorite, burpees. If you only have four minutes in the morning, knock out a quick Tabata round. If you have more time and want to really take it up a notch, mix and match any of your favorite exercises for two, three, or four rounds of Tabata.
- Round 1 – Pushups (4 min)
- Round 2 – Squats (4 min)
- Round 3 – Burpees (4 min)
- Round 4 – Lunges (4 min)
So get started today. See what you can do now and keep this up every day or every other day and see how far you progress in the next 30 days. Remember, start slow and work your way up. Do your best and enjoy the fun!
